Former Pirates employee gives reasons for club failures

A former staffer at Orlando Pirates has revealed that the reason things are always going pear-shaped at the Soweto side is because of meddling backroom staffers.

He said there are four individuals at Pirates who have been given too much power and they are using it to influence even coaching decisions.

“I have been there, I know what I am talking about. There are four people there with too much power. The problem is that they all want to impress the chairman and end up competing to see who has the most influence.

“No one is entirely happy in that club. One day you are told this by this one, the next the other comes with different directives,” said the former staffer who asked not to be named.

“Just look at the incident of the leaked video of Mandla Ncikazi talking to players before they go to the field. Whoever leaked that surely doesn’t want Ncikazi to be appointed as head coach.”

The latest revelations comes just weeks after a source revealed the reasons behind coach Josef Zinnbauer’s departure at the Parktown-based outfit.

According to a source, Zinnbauer was given a line-up for their MTN8 Cup tie with Swallows, which the team ended up losing 2-1 at the Orlando Stadium.

Zinnbauer was furious about the situation at Pirates and felt like he couldn’t be told how to put his team together anymore, hence the resignation.

“The coach wanted to play Nkanyiso Zungu and Goodman Mosele because he was preparing them for the whole week, but people at the top of the management were against that. They told him Zungu and Mosele are still young and he was given a line-up, so that didn’t really sit well with him and he knew from that poaint that he can’t carry on like this. He actually resigned a day before the game, which was on Friday,” said the source.
