Former Chiefs striker facing Stars exit

Phakaaathi has learnt that Free State Stars are set to release Siphelele Mthembu in January.

The former Kaizer Chiefs striker joined Ea Lla Koto during the August transfer period, but has only managed one goal for the team so far.

Now a source close to Stars told Phakaaathi that the club is considering releasing the former Orlando Pirates and Platinum Stars striker.

“The new coach [Luc Eymael] is not happy with his work rate hence he has not been playing. The team is going to promote some youngsters in January, and Mthembu has been identified as one of the players that will be released to open space for the youngsters,” said the source.

Mthembu last played for Stars in September when they beat Polokwane City 3-2.

The 30-year-old striker has been sitting on the bench ever since, with Edward Manqele and Mohammed Anas being the preferred strikers upfront.
