Ex-Pirates defender in hot water for assaulting a referee

Former Orlando Pirates and Moroka Swallows FC defender Lizo Mjempu is facing a huge fine from the South African Football Association after assaulting a referee playing for his team Passion FC a week ago.

Mjempu has been coaching in the ABC Motsepe League and his action towards the match official is likely to earn him a punishment that will send a strong warning to teams who assault match officials.
“He is going to pay a lot of money for what he did and I think he might also get suspended,” said a source at Safa.
“As a former professional himself he must be a good example to other coaches in the league, but instead, he is promoting wrong things,” the source revealed.
