AmaZulu may sue former spokesman over alcohol abuse comments

AmaZulu FC management are considering their legal options and could sue former employee Phumlani Dube for slander.

Dube called a media conference last week where he claimed the club is run by egoistic individuals.

He also alleged that there is an alcoholism problem at the club with both staffers and players occasionally coming to work under the influence.

Dube also revealed how he was ill treated and wrongly accused of physical assault on a female colleague and later fired despite the accusations proven to be untrue.

He also later went on a radio interview where he insisted that Usuthu were not run properly and that someone at the club was targeting him and spreading bad rumours about him to business associates.

Dube also alleged that he had received some cryptic text messages which he felt were threats on his life and wellbeing.

But now Phakaaathi has heard from a source inside the club that legal options are being looked at.

“He has brought the club’s name into disrepute, that we cannot run away from,” said the source.

“There were other ways he could have handled the situation and he could have approached the club and had his issues resolved inside.

AmaZulu feel slandered

“And speaking about his firing and clearing the air on that was fair, but talking about alcohol abuse and other club matters like that was careless of him and borders on slander.

“The club is looking at the matter and legal advice will be seeked to see how it can be taken forward…

“There are also individuals who could take legal action on their own because he defamed them,”  added the source.

Phakaaathi can now further reveal that Dube has indeed received the summons from the AmaZulu lawyers demanding that he retract his statements.

“He has received the letter but he is adamant that he will not retract what he said because it is all truth. 

“Even (Brandon) Truter confirmed his claims and now they want him to retract? No way.”

Truter, who was previously coach at AmaZulu did confirm over the weekend that he had to deal with players coming to training drunk during his time there.
