MDC set to have own knockout competition

According to a report on Isolezwe on Wednesday PSL chairman Irvin Khoza announced that the Multichoice Diski Challenge will now also have a cup competition.

“We will be announcing a cup competition for the MDC in the near future,” Khoza was quoted as saying. “This is one of the ways we want to attract supporters to come to stadiums. We will do an official launch soon,” he added.

The MDC has been running for a few years and while others have hailed it as a great platform for developing youngsters others have an issue as teams are allowed to use senior players.

It has however produced some fine talents with the likes of Menzi Masuku, Siyabonga Ngezana, Percy Tau and Wiseman Meyiwa having come through its ranks.

Meanwhile, King Zwelithini Stadium in Umlazi, Durban will host the highly-anticipated MultiChoice Diski Challenge ‘Derby Festival’ next weekend, Saturday 11 and Sunday 12 November 2017.

The ‘derby festival’ features a total of six derbies: ‘iKapa Derby’ (Cape Town City vs Ajax Cape Town), ‘Tshwane Derby’ (SuperSport United vs Mamelodi Sundowns ), ‘KZN Derby’ (Lamontville Golden Arrows vs Amazulu FC), ‘Limpopo Derby’ (Polokwane City vs Baroka FC), ‘Free State Derby’ ( Bloemfontein Celtic vs Free State Stars) and the ‘Soweto Derby’ ( Orlando Pirates vs Kaizer Chiefs ).
