Matches in Ethiopia suspended after players attack referee
The Ethiopian Football Federation has suspended the country's premier league after players attacked a referee.
During a game between Defence Force SC and Welwalo Adigrat University FC, the referee awarded a goal that led to the incident.
“We want to discuss with the police in the different areas of the country to improve security,” president of the Ethiopian Football Federation Juneidi Basha was quoted by DailyNation.
Welwalo players chased the referee after the goal was awarded. Welwalo’s goalkeeper made a save from the goal line with his teammate, believing it didn’t go over the line.
The referee escaped from the stadium after he took a few blows from the players and the Welwalo team manager.
