Masilela doubts if Chiefs will win the league title

Former Kaizer Chiefs defender Tsepo Masilela believes the gap his former team  and the top team is too big for Amakhosi to dream about winning the league title this season.

Masilela has urged his former teammates Bernard Parker, Itumeleng Khune and Willard Katsande to take a leadership role in the team for the club to perform at its best.

“We are hoping this year it’s going to be better. But if you look at the gap from last season, firstly you need to think about closing the gap before you win the championship,” Masilela told reporters.

“You must be realistic in football. If you finish the season and you look at the log, if the champions are on 60 and you are on 40. You are far off.”

“But anything can happen, it’s football. With our generation, I don’t know. Maybe we had more senior players, more leaders in that team. If you check, we had the likes of Morgan Gould, Pa [Siboniso Gaxa]. Tefu Mashamaite. We had leaders,” Masilela added.

“With this group, they still have the Parkers, the Katsandes, Itu [Khune] is still there. It’s for them to try and help the youngsters to hit the ground running,” concluded the former Bafana Bafana defender.
