Mashaba and Masinga run for safa position

Former Bafana Bafana internationals Philemon Masinga and Ephraim Mashaba are competing for the ten positions in Safa’s (South African Football Association) national executive.

Mashaba and Masinga were nominated to be part of the football body’s executive committee.

Their nominations were supported by the Masters and Legends body.

Masinga believes former football players can play a role in the administration of football in South Africa.

“On behalf of former players, masters and legends we are all excited,” Masinga was quoted by SundayWorld. “it doesn’t matter who is going to be elected”.

“It is a historical moment for our football and we’d like to thank the regions for nominating us. We also thank Safa for being bold enough to allow us, ex-professionals, to stand.”

Mashaba weighed in on considering retired players to join the committee.

“it’s long overdue,” said Mashaba.

“It doesn’t excite me because, most unfortunately, our football consults from one office. That’s why we don’t see many changes.”

“You can’t just sit there for the sake of a position.”
