Malesela gallantly dancing Marumo away from relegation quagmire

Dan “Dance” Malesela is one of the highly rated local coaches in the country and he has proved why he is held in high regard as he turned things around at Marumo Gallants after joining the side last month. 

Malesela inherited a struggling Gallants team from Xaniseka Mdaka, and like their last name, he has led a gallant fight out of the relegation quagmire, collecting 15 points since his arrival to make sure they keep some distance away from the bottom going into the New Year.

“I am very pleased with the effort that the boys have put in. We finished the first half of the season on 15 points and that is something the club probably did not expect, considering the situation at the beginning. One can only be proud of how the boys adapted and tried to implement my philosophy,” said Malesela, whose side managed to hold defending champions Mamelodi Sundowns to a one-all draw in their last game of the year.   

“This is not the full package at this point because we did not have much time but they understood a number of things that we tried to impart to them and that is just amazing, one can only be proud and look forward to progress at the club in the New Year,” he added.

Gallants are unsurprisingly among the least scoring teams in the DStv Premiership and Malesela has diagnosed the problem and hopes to find solutions in the upcoming January transfer window.

“We will train and practice some of the things that we need to know and we will need players. We are not so troubled at the back but one will need central midfielders for cover and competition because you get the best when you have competition,” said Malesela.

He adds: “We also need wingers and at least two strikers. We have been creating chances to score but we have not been scoring so we need to freshen up that department. We are not rubbishing the players who we have but we want people who can also help with what we have.”
