Majoro blossoming at Wits

The 31-year-old striker got his first goal for the club against Kaizer Chiefs on Saturday evening, and his general industry in attack has been key in the Clever Boys’ mini-revival in 2018.

Majoro has started all six of Wits’ league games so far this year, an illustration of Hunt’s faith in the former Kaizer Chiefs, Orlando Pirates and Cape Town City man.

“It is not all about scoring goals, it is about teamwork, the effort you put in when given the opportunity, that determines whether you start the next game. I have been trying my level best and I think I have improved enormously,” said Majoro yesterday, ahead of Wits’ meeting with Cape Town City tomorrow in the Nedbank Cup last-32.

“I cover more distance and I make more runs than I used to make in my previous teams. I believe that comes with the style of play and with the mental strength of an individual, knowing you mustn’t relax.

“I believe one of the reasons I can cover more distance is because the intensity of training is similar to the games. I have never been in ice baths so often after training since I came here!”
Majoro was delighted to get off the mark for his new club against Chiefs.

“It felt good to score after such a long time. I have been trying to score and failing but I never lost focus. I never lost hope, every time I miss a goal I tell myself to keep on trying because that is what the best strikers do.”

It was Cape Town City who released Majoro early from his contract so that he could join up with Wits, but the man himself does not seem overly concerned about possibly having to face his old teammates on Wednesday evening.

“I think it is a mental thing. People tend to psyche themselves up when they play their former team and it leads them to make more mistakes. I don’t want to fall into that trap, I take it one game at a time … I believe if we can exert ourselves the same way we did in our previous game, we might come up with a positive result. This is the only trophy we stand a chance at this point to win.”
