Mahlangu not convinced Chiefs can win league title

Former Kaizer Chiefs star Jabu Mahlangu believes lack of depth will prevent Amakhosi from winning the Absa Premiership title this season.

Chiefs have had a bright start to the season, winning three, drawing one and losing just one of their opening five league matches so far this season.

Mahlangu, a fan favourite during his time with Amakhosi between 1999 and 2004, is impressed by Chiefs’ good start‚ but remains unconvinced that Amakhosi will win the league title.

“So far so good. But it is very early to tell‚” Mahlangu told TimesLIVE.

“I think they have managed to keep the core of the team. They have only signed three or four players where they lacked.

“And the striker [Samir] Nurkovic‚ right now‚ we can see that he’s bringing a different dimension that we haven’t seen in a long time at Chiefs.

“In terms of Chiefs as a whole‚ my worry is do they have depth if Nurkovic gets injured. Because at the end of the day these defenders will also start to read him,” he added.

Chiefs will next meet AmaZulu at King Zwelithini Stadium on Tuesday at 3pm.
