Mahlambi to attend trials in Portugal

Bidvest Wits coach Gavin Hunt has revealed young sensation Phakamani Mahlambi will go on trial in Portugal this week.

Speaking at the PSL Awards in Sandton on Monday night‚ Hunt said the 19-year-old forward, who won the Absa Premiership Young Player of the Season award, would spend three weeks at an unnamed club in Portugal.

“He’s going overseas this week – we’re sending him to Portugal. They’ll have a look at him there and let him train there for about three weeks, which is good. He’s got about a three-week trial before the start of the season‚ and hopefully‚ please God‚ he makes it,” said Hunt.

Meanwhile, Hunt also confirmed that the Clever Boys would announce a few more signings.

Wits have signed Steven Pienaar, Daylon Claasen‚ Bokang Tlhone and Montenegro defender Slavko Damjanovic during the current transfer period.

“Yeah, one or two more. Those will come this week‚” Hunt remarked.
