Sundowns will still be licking their wounds after being knocked out of the MTN8 with a 2-0 defeat to Tshwane rivals SuperSport United.
New Zealand striker Jeremy Brockie, who recently joined Maritzburg on loan from Sundowns, will not feature due to a clause in his contract making him ineligible to face his parent club.
It should be a comfortable three points on paper for the defending champions as they come up against the lowest-ranked PSL team of last season that remain in the league.
Maritzburg are without a win thus far this season and have picked up just the two points from four matches, despite the early-season fixture list being kind to them by pitting them against Golden Arrows (0-1), Highlands Park (1-1), Stellenbosch FC (0-0) and Black Leopards (0-1).
