Currently both sides are tied on 41 points with Pirates ahead of Wits in second place due to a single strike in goal difference.
Both outfits trail leaders Mamelodi Sundowns by three points though with the Brazilians facing a possible points deduction, the clash between the Clever Boys and the Sea Robbers has added significance.
Sundowns were found guilty of fielding the ineligible Wayne Arendse in a match last year, and are currently awaiting their sentence which appears likely to be a points deduction.
Nonetheless, the visitors arrive having suffered a spate of injuries to key performers.
Goalkeeper Wayne Sandilands is a doubt with a head injury concern while Luvuyo Memela may not be available after he suffered a deep laceration to his thigh during last Monday’s 0-0 draw with Downs.
In addition, the highly influential Thembinkosi Lorch is suspended after reaching his yellow card limit.
