Lebogang Manyama not bothered by Sundowns speculation

The Premier Soccer League’s man-of-the-moment says he will only take note of talks linking him with a move to Mamelodi Sundowns once his team Cape Town City officially notify him of such.

Manyama – who bagged three major awards during the PSL’s ceremony on Monday night – said until City tell him that he is to move, he will consider the talks as just rumours.

Sundowns coach, Pitso Mosimane is a long admirer of the 26-year-old and has previously made it public that he would jump at the opportunity to sign him.

“It is a huge honour to hear him say that. He is the number one coach in Africa and his team are the best in the continent.

“But it is a norm that when you do well in football… the same thing happened when I was at Ajax and I was doing well talks of Chiefs and Pirates wanting me were all over.

“It’s all speculation. It does not worry me. Until there is confirmation from both teams on what is happening with my future I will not worry about it. It remains speculation for now,” said Manyama.

Next season, Manyama will play under a new coach in Benni McCarthy following Eric Tinkler’s move away from City.

He believes the former Bafana striker has a lot to offer and should be given a fair chance.

“I think before Wits signed Schillo (Steven Pienaar) we had the best signing in Benni,” said Manyama jokingly.

“Benni is a winner and he achieved a lot as a player. He is somebody that has so much to share and we are lucky to be the first ones to benefit from him. He deserves an opportunity to show what he can do.”
