According to a source close to Chiefs, a meeting was held in Naturena over the weekend following the club’s 3-0 defeat by Chippa United at FNB Stadium on Saturday.
Following this heavy defeat, some angry Chiefs fans threw objects at Komphela and the players as they left the pitch. This prompted the club management to call a meeting with the technical team and the players.

“Komphela took the responsibility for the loss and said he would understand if the management wanted to sack him, but in the end it was decided that firing Komphela at this stage of the season won’t make any sense,” said a source close to Chiefs.
“The league title might be gone, but Chiefs are in the semi-finals of the Nedbank Cup. So firing Komphela will jeopardise the club’s chances of winning this cup. But what I can tell you is that the management, especially the big boss Kaizer [Motaung] is not happy and plans to replace Komphela regards if he wins the Nedbank Cup or not,” added the source.
Meanwhile, Komphela told the media after the Chippa loss that he will not resign from his post as Chiefs head coach.
“I can’t run away, and I’m not the kind of guy who runs away from responsibility. If you are a proud person, sacrifice and responsibility are the next logical components you have to embrace yourself in,” he affirmed.
“And then you have to be brave and face it. If I ran away, what should happen to the players? My responsibility is to see to it that I own up and help the players, protect the players, and see to it that things get stable,” said the embattled coach.
