Komphela not giving up on league title

Kaizer Chiefs coach Steve Komphela believes that it is possible for Amakhosi to win the Premiership title this season.

Amakhosi, who were leading the log standings prior to the weekend games, were held to a 1-1 draw by a gallant Ajax Cape Town on Saturday night.

Following the draw, Chiefs fell to third position on the log, a point behind leaders SuperSport United.

“We have to win our remaining matches,” Komphela told the club’s website.

“Anything is possible at this stage. We must just keep applying pressure on the leaders, as they will face challenges too. Suspensions, injuries and loss of form are football aspects that can happen to any team. Of course, elements of luck will also play a role towards the final lap.”

Komphela commended the way his players played against Ajax, but added he regretted not picking up all the three points in this encounter.

“The only regret we have is not picking up the three points.

“We played well and should have scored in the first half. However, give credit to Ajax, they gave us a good match.

“There were more positives than negatives to draw from this game – the positive, attacking play, the set-pieces and playing for a win.”

Chiefs now turn their attention to the much-awaited Soweto Derby against Orlando Pirates at FNB Stadium on Saturday.
