Speculation has been rife that Amakhosi have started a search for a new coach, with Free State Stars coach Luc Eymael and Bidvest Wits’ mentor Gavin Hunt mentioned as the possible replacements.
Speaking after his side beat Baroka FC 1-0 on Saturday to reach the semifinals of the Nedbank Cup, Komphela admitted that his future at the club is out of his hands.
“For our administrators and our supporters, it’s very important that we win the cup. People have been waiting. We’ve been to two cup finals…semifinals and all that. We need to win something, not for ourselves, because we serve these people (the fans). Chiefs are about winning trophies and it’s their pride,” said Komphela.
“Like I said, I’m at Chiefs for now but I’m in football. Steve will come and go. What is important is the Kaizer Chiefs brand.”

The Chiefs mentor was not happy with his team’s failure to convert chances created.
“We’re happy the outcome and the result, but the score could have been better. We need to be clinical.”
With Chiefs two games away from winning the competition, Komphela insists that there is nothing to celebrate yet.
“We still have to get to the final…get to the final and win the trophy, but the most important one was the result here tonight (Saturday). Even though I thought 1-0 could have been better. But we are delighted with the victory and the support here in PE,” concluded Komphela.
