Amakhosi were plagued by injuries ahead of their clash against Sundowns earlier this week, but Komphela’s tactical nous was key in mustering a win over their league rivals.

Komphela said he has previously found himself in a situation where his side was plagued by injuries ahead of a crucial game.
“I remember we were playing Santos, I was at Free State Stars, we had nobody and that Santos team was on song and we went on to win the match 2-0,” said Komphela.
“You can’t have that at Chiefs, Sundowns and Pirates because there are certain environments and expectations are set. In a smaller environment you can take that risk.
“The Russians will tell you that when they go to war, they don’t want everything to be perfect because if everything is perfect, there is a feeling that they might not win that war. They want to go with a mishap and maybe it heightens the level of concentration when you have some setbacks.”
