Komphela blames ‘pathetic’ pitch for Chiefs draw

The Amakhosi coach described the pitch as pathetic.

“We couldn’t play here. I’ve heard many coaches complain about the surface. It’s a pity that we denied people good football,” Komphela told SuperSport TV.

“I think what they can do is bring down the level of the grass a little bit down or try to maintain it better.

“When I asked Duncan [Lechesa] and Lehlohonolo Seema, they say: ‘If I think this is not good enough for both teams to play football, then I must go to Seisa Ramabodu,’ but I think they should do better so that teams can play.

“Otherwise, if you are here it means, you just have to kick the ball, and we are not a kicking team.

“But a draw I thought was fair – a reflection of the match. Celtic came in, you could see their energy, and they wanted to play. One thing they did, they overloaded the midfield. Jacky Motshegwa was part of the midfield, and they left Deon Hotto to use the width. I thought we could have taken advantage of that, but we didn’t.”
