Khuzwayo should have stayed at Chiefs, says ex-Arrows keeper

Former Golden Arrows and Orlando Pirates goalkeeper Thulasizwe Khuzwayo believes Brilliant Khuzwayo should have renewed his contract with Kaizer Chiefs instead of moving to Orlando Pirates.

The 35-year-old says Brilliant should have waited for his chance at Chiefs with Itumeleng Khune struggling with injury every season.

“Brilliant (Khuzwayo) was Khune’s reserve, I didn’t see the need to run off to Pirates,” Khuzwayo told Phakaaathi.

Khune has been ruled out for the rest of the season after suffering a shoulder injury leaving Virgil Vries with the responsibility of keep the ball out of Amakhosi’s net.

“Khune is injured now, Brilliant would have a chance to play at the moment (if he was still at Chiefs), keepers are wrong to move from one team to the next due to game time. When moving from one team to the next as a goalkeeper it doesn’t benefit you most of the time, you don’t grow.

“I was Arthur Bartman’s back up, I learned from him, and he encouraged me, I only got to play in my second season at Arrows, after spending the first season on the bench. As a goalkeeper you need to practice patience, you need to remember only one keeper can play at a time, we are not strikers or midfielders,” added Khuzwayo.
