There have been a number of players who were seen as prospects who never really lived up to expectation and the Kaizer Chiefs goalkeeper says he is open for youngsters to seek advice.
“Football is about discipline… Lack of it leads to clubs not retaining them. A lot of us will play one season and when people tell you that ‘you have arrived’ it goes to your head and it makes you lose your way and what you had initially planned,” said the Bafana Bafana No. 1.
Khune – who played his 300th game for Amakhosi against Stellenbosch last weekend – says he plans to play until he is 40 because that is what he set out for when he turned professional.
“I planned to play until I am 40 and I am still going to stick to that. I will work hard to reach that. I doubt if some players have set goals on where and how far they want to go.
“It’s disappointing when they never reach any milestones in their careers. We have to set an example for them. It pains me. There are a lot of us that these young boys can learn from. I am always available to young players for advice and I help them almost every day. It gives me satisfaction when someone I have helped progresses in their career.”
