Khune and Maluleka set to miss Arrows game

The duo suffered injuries during Amakhosi's 1-0 victory over Baroka Fc at the weekend.

Kaizer Chief coach Ernst Middendorp has revealed that goalkeeper Itumeleng Khune and midfielder George Maluleka might not feature in Tuesday’s clash with Golden Arrows.

The duo suffered injuries during Amakhosi’s 1-0 victory over Baroka FC at the weekend.

“We will assess the two players,” Middendorp told the club’s website. “They will probably not be available on Tuesday. But we have depth in our squad. Some of the players have not played so far in the season.

“Youngster Njabulo Blom was due to play in the MDC fixture on Sunday and had to be pulled out to join the first team for Tuesday’s game.”

Meanwhile, Middendorp feels goalkeeper Daniel Akpeyi is a capable replacement for Khune. The Nigerian goalkeeper won the Man of the Match award last Saturday, having come on for Khune in the first half against Baroka.

“If anyone questions the ability of Akpeyi, I don’t know. He is a fantastic person who’s dedicated to his game. I don’t have any problems in the goalkeeping area at the moment,” commented Middendorp.
