“One of the things that create excitement is the cultivation of talent and the supporters can identify this talent. And hopefully, it will help us as clubs to protect ourselves from age cheating. Because what we are offered sometimes by intermediaries is not real. You will find a 17-year old guy who can trap and kick the ball, but his real age is 26-years,” said Khoza.

“When his injuries are not healing, it is only then you realise that something is not right. But with this one (a player who plays in the MDC), the community will say we know this guy, he was at this school at the age of 13-years we know him. It becomes easy because the media and the community are part of the action now.”

In 2012, Pirates decided to shut-down their development structures after a huge concern over age cheating, the academy was reopened in 2014.
