Kekana anticipates a physical encounter against Galaxy

Mamelodi Sundowns defender Grant Kekana anticipates a physical encounter when Downs host TS Galaxy in the DStv Premiership this Sunday.

The Brazilians convincingly beat Amakhosi 2-0 last time out but Kekana is of the view that Sundowns still have a lot to improve following their 2-0 win over Kaizer Chiefs last time out.

“I think they will be more physical because they play a lot of long balls into the striker and they play a lot of second balls but they also have to adapt to our style of play,” said Kekana.

“We are looking to rectify some of the things we did not do right against Chiefs and we hope to convert more chances. We set targets for ourselves as a team and each and it is very important and crucial to live up to the standards that we set for ourselves. In each and every game we try to better ourselves and it won’t be any different with the TS Galaxy game,” he added.

Galaxy held their own when the faced the Glamour Boys in the league and have managed to find their scoring touch in a 2-2 draw with Golden Arrows after drawing blanks in their opening two games – something that gives Kekana the impression that The Rockets have turned the corner in front of goal and Downs will need to be at their best to outsmart Da Gama’s tactics.

“Galaxy are a hard working team and we know they are going to go all out but at the end of the day our quality will speak for itself. We just need to go into the game and apply ourselves well and hopefully get the positive results,” the Sundowns defender said.

Sundowns will relish the opportunity to maintain their unbeaten run in the early stages of the league and for that to happen, the defence will have to be sharp and form an immovable and unshakable force in front of whoever Rulani Mokwena and Manqoba Mngqithi will deploy in goal. For Kekana, it does not matter who forms part of the rear guard on match day.

“My pairing with Rushine is no different from my pairing with Rushine and Mosa or Rushine and Nascimento. Everything comes down to training because there are different combinations that are tried out in training and it makes it easier for us to jell and get used to each other and the fact that we all had a great pre-season makes it better,” said Kekana.
