Katsande targets third-place finish

The team might find it quite difficult to finish within the top three unless they win all their games and Cape Town City and SuperSport United lose points.

Kaizer Chiefs might have lost out on the race for the league title, but there is still a lot to play for, says midfielder Willard Katsande, who is keen on the club finishing third on the league table to secure a spot in the Caf Confederations Cup.

And now with only two games remaining to the end of the season, Katsande said they would have to grind out results starting with the upcoming weakened fixture against Polokwane City at the new Peter Mokaba Stadium.

“We want to compete in continental competition. So, the last three games are very important to us. So we have to grind maximum points starting with the weekend’s game against Polokwane City,” the midfielder added.

“Most of the guys want to play in the Champions league, and some of us have the experience because we were part of the Africa Cup of Nations, so finishing within the top-three in the league will be good for us.”

Chiefs are currently on fifth place on the log standings with 47 points, five points behind third-placed Cape Town City, who are on 52, while fourth-placed SuperSport United are a point above Chiefs.

In order for Katsande and his teammates to reach this feat, they will have to hope for both Cape City and United to drop points.
