Kaizer Chiefs remain in the hunt for new striker

Amakhosi could still sign a player outside of the window, but he would have to be a free agent. Chiefs have taken three strikers on trial already, but none have made the grade.

“The club invited a number of players for assessment during the pre-season in a quest to bolster the striking force. Jonatan Phillipe from Argentina and Okikiola Afolabi form Nigeria and Abdalla Hussein Kilala from Tanzania were given a chance to train with the team. However, after consultation, the technical team decided against keeping them and (they) were thus released,” said Chiefs team manager Bobby Motaung.

“Our search for a formidable striker does not end with the window period closure – we will cast our net far and wide and will not stop searching until we find our man,” he added.

Chiefs have had a slow transfer window, with Bloemfontein Celtic’s Dumisani Zuma, Maritzburg United’s Philani Zulu, Chicken Inn’s Teenage Hadebe and Cape Town City’s Bongolwethu Jayiya thus far the only new additions to the Chiefs stable.

Amakhosi have also promoted four players – Bruce Bvuma, Khotso Malope, Wiseman Meyiwa and Nkosingiphile Ngcobo – from their development ranks.
