Kaizer Chiefs and Xulu cross swords

Chiefs announced last month that Xulu was one of the seven players who were not in coach Steve Komphela’s plans for next season and that they had terminated his contract.

But Xulu’s legal representatives dispute this, saying the 25-year-old defender has three years left on his contract.

The centre signed a five-year contract believed to be worth R2 million a year with Chiefs in 2015 after leaving FC Rostov.

Xulu’s agent, Paul Mitchell, told SPORTSexpress that Chiefs only wanted to pay the defender a derisory settlement of a few months’ salary in lieu of the termination of his contract, but he and Xulu wanted a decent offer, otherwise they would take the matter to Fifa, where Xulu could be entitled to as much as R6 million.

As reported by Phakaaathi last month, Orlando Pirates and Mamelodi Sundowns are believed to be keen to sign Xulu.

Also keen to sign the former FC Rostov defender are Ajax Cape Town and Cape Town City.
