Ibenge resigned as coach of DR Congo after the 2019 Africa Cup of Nations in Egypt. The former AS Vita coach’s exit from the DRC national team fuelled rumours that he was on his way Naturena.
Ibenge has been linked with the Kaizer Chiefs coaching job as German mentor Ernst Middendorp is skating on thin ice after losing to National First Division side TS Galaxy in the final of the Nedbank Cup last season.
“Ibenge needed rest,” the coach was quoted as saying by ACTUALITE.CD.
“I have just had four years without rest. I am a human being, even if people call me Android. I need to rest too. I spoke with the leaders of [AS Vita Club], they gave me a long rest.
“These are [just rumours from] social networks. We put out information and everyone thinks it’s true. As far as I’m concerned, if you didn’t see me speak [about it] personally, it’s fake news. Do not believe what comes out except when I say.”
