He got the card in a league game against AmaZulu last week. It was his fourth yellow card and it earned him a one-match suspension.
Vilakazi says it was important for him to get the card so that he could be suspended.
The former PSL Player of the Season believes the club will need him in the upcoming games as they fight for the league title, Nedbank Cup and Caf Champions League.
“Yes, I got it on purpose obviously because of the upcoming game, you take one for the team. I took the yellow so that could I miss one game to be available for other games. I trusted my teammates that they would be selected and they would do the job,” said Vilakazi in an interview with SABC Sport.
The Bafana Bafana midfielder has scored four goals and made one assist in 16 league appearances for Sundowns this season.
