Hunt rubbishes Wits exit reports

Bidvest Wits coach Gavin Hunt labelled reports that he could lose his job to Gordon Igesund as “absolute rubbish”.

Earlier, a source close to Wits told Phakaaathi that the club is considering axing Hunt and replacing him with the former Bafana Bafana mentor, following a poor start to the 2017/18 season.

Hunt, however, is adamant that he is staying put at Wits.

The former SuperSport United and Moroka Swallows mentor has blamed injuries for Wits’ poor start to the season.

“We are missing goalkeeper Darren Keet, who has a knee problem, and we are not sure when he will be fit to play,” Hunt told IOL. “On top of that, most of my first-choice defenders are injured and we are struggling at the back.

“I am hoping that Thulani Hlatshwayo and Nazeer Allie (red-carded against Kaizer Chiefs recently) will both be available for our next league game at home to Supersport United on October 17.

“During the festive-season transfer window period, we will need to bring in another goalkeeper and two centre backs.”
