Hunt proud of ‘suffering’ Wits

The Clever Boys continued their remarkable away record with a 2-1 win at Free State Stars, their seventh league win on the road this season, to go with two draws and no defeats thus far.

It was also the second time Wits had won at Goble Park this season, a notoriously difficult place to play, after they also beat Ea Lla Koto 1-0 in the Telkom Knockout last-16.

And Wits had to do it the hard way at the weekend, as they fell behind inside the first minute to a header from Harris Tchilimbou. Stars had several other chances to extend their lead before Wits levelled through a fine flicked header from Terrence Dzvukamanja.

Deon Hotto provided the cross for that goal and also for the winner, which was finished off by an even better header from Elias Pelembe.

“In the first half they had three or four great chances, and we also had a good couple of chances … the score could easily have been 3-3 or 4-4.

“We tightened up a bit in the second half and had some great opportunities to break clear, and we scored a good (winning) goal,” Hunt told SuperSport TV.

“I thought we deserved it but it was real backs-to-the-wall stuff for us. We really suffered here tonight in a lot of things … to concede after 40 seconds, I don’t think I have ever been down here (at Goble Park) and won the game.

“It is a great result and it keeps us going. We have a big game on Wednesday (Wits are at home to Kaizer Chiefs), every game is a big game. We showed good grit and determination. We were off the pace in the first half, but that is what good teams do, when you are not playing well you can still grind out results.”
