Hunt, Mosimane bemoan dull draw

The result suited Orlando Pirates more than either Masandawana or the Clever Boys, especially as they hammered AmaZulu on the same evening.

Sundowns, however, could be slightly happier with the point, despite slipping to third in the table, with two games in hand on both the Buccaneers and Wits, and given that they spent much of the game with 10 men.

Mosimane’s side are just two points behind Wits and level on points with Pirates, trailing them only on goals scored.

Phakamani Mahlambi put Sundowns in front against his former club, but Wits rallied to equalise, with Gift Motupa capitalising on an error from Brazilian defender Ricardo Nasciemento. Wayne Arendse was then given his marching orders for hauling down Fagrie Lakay but Sundowns held out for a share of the spoils.

“I am not happy with the result but under the circumstances I will take the point,” said Mosimane afterwards.

“I was unhappy with the point against Polokwane City (Sundowns drew 1-1 with City a few days earlier), but against Polokwane City we made a big mistake and again today we made another big one, from another experienced player. They probably wouldn’t have done anything else if Ricardo hadn’t made a big mistake, but they did put us under pressure.

“They reacted after our goal, and had other chances to score, but they missed them.”

Hunt said he was “disappointed with the point. We didn’t score, we didn’t have the final touch, the final pass, that is the bottom line.

“It was very difficult, they sat in there and didn’t go anywhere, but you have to go through them, around them, over them, and we didn’t do it properly. The final ball wasn’t good enough, but we still should have won – we had more than enough chances. It is what it is, we will keep battling on.”
