Hunt explains Gamal’s absence

Bidvest Wits coach Gavin Hunt says Egyptian striker Amr Gamal has to fight for his place in the squad.

Gamal hit the ground running when he arrived at Wits from Egyptian club Al Ahly on loan in August last year. However, the Egyptian striker has now fell down the pecking order at the Clever Boys.

The 26-year-old was linked with a move away from Wits in the January transfer window with several reports suggesting that he could join another Absa Premiership side or move to Russia, but the player stayed with Wits.

“No, Gamal is still with us, we have strikers. Majoro just joined, the team is doing well and everyone has to compete for a place in the squad. We can’t talk about keeping him now, will talk at the end of the season. Yes, Al Ahly said we can talk but for now he is on loan, it is too early, will talk at the end of the season,” Hunt told Phakaaathi.
