Hunt expects tough Chiefs clash

Bidvest Wits have had a good run at the start of 2018, but Gavin Hunt is well aware that they have plenty to do if they are to achieve a respectable finish in the Absa Premiership.

“We have to keep going, we are so far behind,” said Hunt , his team still sitting just one point above Ajax Cape Town, who are in the relegation play-off spot.

The Clever Boys will face Kaizer Chiefs this evening, a side they have done pretty well against already this season, beating Steve Komphela’s side on the way to winning the Telkom Knockout, and also earning a 1-1 draw in the league’s first round at FNB Stadium.

“Every game is a tough game. It is the normal story,” added Hunt.

“They are also in good form, it should make for a good game.”

Wits have picked up ten points out of a possible 12 in their last four matches, while Chiefs are unbeaten in six, winning four, a run that has lifted Amakhosi up to third in the table.

Chiefs were impressive in a draw with leaders Mamelodi Sundowns at FNB Stadium last weekend, with Teenage Hadebe and Daniel Cardoso particularly impressive at the back and young Dumisani Zuma excelling on the counter-attack.

So far, new acqusitions Siphelele Ntshangase and Leonardo Castro have started on the bench, and the situation could be the same this evening, though Castro has already made an impact, with his winner at Baroka FC.

Wits have also been helped by January reinforcements, with Sifiso Myeni impressing on his return to the club and Edwin Gyimah doing a fine job in central midfield. Striker James Keene is also in sparkling form, with three goals in his last three appearances.

Hunt added that his side basically had a clean bill of health for today’s game, with the only major absentee being long-term injury casualy Nazeer Allie.
