Hunt ‘confirms’ Baxter as new Bafana coach

Bidvest Wits coach Gavin Hunt says SuperSport United counterpart Stuart Baxter will soon be confirmed as the new Bafana Bafana head coach.

Safa have been searching for the new Bafana coach for a few months now, and as reported earlier, United have let the national association with Baxter but are only prepared to release their coach in July.

“They [Safa] can’t call me can they? They’ve got Baxter already haven’t they?‚” Hunt is quoted as saying by TMG Sport.

“They have made their decision. They have tried to get three or four coaches and they didn’t get them.”

Safa are searching for a new coach after Shakes Mashaba was relieved of his duties in November last year.

Carlos Queiroz, Herve Renard, Ruud Krol and Hugo Broos had at various stages all seemed strong contenders to replace the fired Shakes Mashaba.

Others such as Roy Hodgson, Giovanni Trapattoni, Claude Le Roy, Pitso Mosimane and Gavin Hunt were also mentioned as possible options.

A number of the above candidates have already been ruled out for varying reasons, while others were probably never more than media speculation.
