Furman hails his understudy Webber
SuperSport United captain Dean Furman has heaped praise on his understudy Jamie Webber.
Webber has made a couple of appearances for Matsatsantsa A Pitori this season when Furman was nursing an injury. The skipper has dubbed the 21-year-old one for the future.
“Jamie is a fantastic young prospect and we are very excited by his talent. He is unbelievable and he is a great finisher and he is willing to learn.
“I played alongside him against Orlando Pirates and he was great in that game and I am delighted he has been called up in the Under-23 squad and I really hope he can continue to progress as he has done in the last season because he is a brilliant player and is certainly exciting to watch,” Furman told Phakaaathi.
While Webber will be taking care of business on a junior level for the country, Furman, on the other hand, is on national duty on a bigger scale with Bafana Bafana as they prepare to face Libya on Sunday. Bafana need to avoid defeat if they are to book a place in the Africa Cup of Nations in June.
“It is all about getting the job done, we can’t have excuses. It has been an up-and-down group because we started off with a fantastic win over Nigeria and then we had a fantastic result against Seychelles and a disappointing draw away to Seychelles. So it has been a bit of a roller-coaster ride for us but we have to finish in the right style and I think we have the squad to take us all the way,” he said.
The former Bafana captain added: “With them needing a win they are going to throw bodies forward and hopefully that might suit us. The likes of Themba Zwane, Percy Tau, Keagan Dolly or whoever plays, we know we have got a lot of speed going forward and we can exploit spaces. Hopefully we are going to see them coming at us.”
