Frosler still finding his feet at Chiefs

When Reeve Frosler broke into the Bidvest Wits first team at 19, he was seen as a future star but things soon went pear- shaped and he found himself having to train with the development teams before a surprise move to Kaizer Chiefs.

The 21-year-old defender has started both Amakhosi’s games this season but he knows he will have to keep working hard to continue getting game time.

“I hadn’t played a while and my mind went into a set way, I was training with a lower division team and the body tends to drop a little bit. And coming to this set- up here (at Chiefs) and training at high intensity again it was a little difficult to readjust. But after the pre-season I am in a better condition than I was six months ago.

“I hadn’t played in a while leading up to this season. It’s a new page for me to write a new chapter in my career. I am taking it one game at a time and hoping to improve and get better. It is also the first time I am playing under a different coach so I am still learning and trying to see what he likes and adjust my game to suit what he wants,” he said. Frosler said he had to work hard to earn his place in the team.

“I needed to work hard, there is a lot of quality here and no one has a guaranteed spot in the team. We are all fighting for positions. I need to keep working hard and keep doing the right things so I can continue getting game time.”

Asked if they were worried that it is Erick Mathoho who is leading the team in terms of goal- scoring with the central defender putting his name on the score sheet twice already, Frosler said what matters is that they keep winning.

Mathoho scored the winning goals both in the 3-2 win at Highlands Park and the 1-0 win over Black Leopards.

“We are scoring goals, and if “Tower” keeps scoring and we win games, we take it that way. It is a team effort so it doesn’t matter who does it as long as we score and defend well.

Frosler is likely to be in the starting line-up again when Ernst Middendorp’s side host SuperSport United at the FNB Stadium tonight. The game is scheduled for a 6pm kick-off.

“SuperSport are doing well for themselves so early in the league season. But we have also done pretty well ourselves with two wins. It is going to be an interesting game,” he said.
