Former Zamalek coach welcomes Lamptey ban

Ahmed 'Mido' Hossam has welcomed the life ban handed by Fifa to Ghanaian referee Joseph Lamptey.

Lamptey was banned for “unlawfully influencing match result” of the match between South Africa and Senegal.

The Ghanaian referee awarded South Africa a penalty in the 43rd minute after adjudging that Gueye had handled the ball inside his penalty area, however, TV replays later showed that the ball had hit the player’s legs.

Bafana Bafana went on to win the game 2-1 and are currently joint top of the log with Burkina Faso.

Lamptey also came under fire after he was accused of manipulating the outcome of a game between TP Mazembe and Zamalek in 2014.

“I always refuse to blame referees for defeats, but the referee’s performance was clear after the match,” Hossam told KingFut.

“African football will not move forward with referees like that.

“Egyptian official Yasser Abdel-Raouf accused TP Mazembe of bribery in 2009 and we’re witnessing a repeat of that now.”
