Former Mamelodi Sundowns midfielder Luyolo Nomandela has become a key player for promotion-chasing Gauteng ABC Motsepe League side Baberwa, scoring three times in his first four games at the club.
Nomandela’s goals and overall contribution have helped the side to keep their three points lead at the top of the standings with 10 games to go.
“They are serious about getting promoted this time around and that is why some difficult decisions including changing of technical team were taken. People thought the club were losing direction when they released some players and long-serving coach Jabulani Mendu but it was all in the plan. It is now beginning to bear fruits and there is hope that they can hold on until the end of the season,” said a source close to the team.
Baberwa, however, have JDR Stars and Dondol on their tails and will need nerves of steel to go on and win the league to qualify for the playoffs where the two teams who will be campaigning in the National First Division next year are to be decided.
Swallows are meanwhile 13 points behind the leaders and look to have lost out on any chance of winning the league and getting back to the professional ranks. The Dube Birds are currently sixth with 30 points.
