Former Chiefs captain silent on next move

The former Chiefs defender remained mum on his next move as he is enjoying his holiday, while his agent, Jazzman Mahlakgane was unreachable for comment.

Mashamaite joined United in 2016 but has had little impact since returning from a lone season stint in Swedish side BK Häcken.

“Coming back from Sweden where I had struggles with a knee injury and eventually recovered and at a point which the team was doing really well domestically and that was during the reign of Stuart Baxter,” he told Phakaaathi.

“I found it difficult to break into the first team but I sat some of the games in the Confederation Cup and I was just happy that I have been involved from the beginning of the tournament until the final and that is definitely a take way moment in my career to participate in the Confed Cup and help the team reach the final,” he added.

Having enjoyed a lot of success with Kaizer Chiefs as he captained Amakhosi to a league and cup double before clean sweeping the individual awards in the 2014/15Absa Premiership season, the former Bidvest Wits skipper, does, however, wish he could have made more of his stay in the capital city.

“I started struggling with the injuries in Sweden and one of the reasons why I came back is that we were playing on an artificial pitch and that was not easy. It was the third time after a long time that I suffer setback because of an injury. Life is evolution and you can’t expect to be at the top.

“I would have loved to have achieved more and to be involved more but this is football and it is unpredictable in its nature.

“Before I became a captain at Wits, it didn’t start all that well. I signed my professional contract in 2006 and I only started playing in 2008. It is kind of a cliché but people say when you are down, what matters is how you get up and hopefully the next phase will give me an opportunity to once again rise up,” he concluded.
