Former Barcelona coach joins Sundowns

Mamelodi Sundowns have appointed former Barcelona assistant coach José Ramón Alexanko as their new director of academy and scouting.

The 63-year-old, who will head up the development structures of the club, brings a wealth of experience to the defending Absa Premiership champions, having served as a youth system coordinator at Barcelona and also managing the Romanian national team.

Sundowns coach Pitso Mosimane welcomed the Spaniard’s appointment and hopes Alexanko will make a telling contribution to the club’s development structures.

“He has my full support and we are all excited to work together in order to elevate the club,” Mosimane was quoted as saying following Alexanko’s appointment.

The Brazilians have previously cast their net overseas to get players in recent seasons and Alexanko is expected to help Mosimane in getting more overseas-based players to Chloorkop.
