Fifa drops South African referees

South African referee Kulasande Qongqo and assistant referees Peter Chauke and Stevens Khumalo were not re-nominated to be on the Fifa panel of referees.


According to the Sowetan, Qongqo was removed from the list because of poor performance, while Chauke and Khumalo have been suspended and investigated for alleged bribery during the ABC Motsepe League play-offs.

Chauke and Khumalo face bans if found guilty.

Being an accredited match referee or linesman means a match official wears a Fifa badge as opposed to an association badge, as well as an opportunity to officiate international matches.

Athenkosi Ndongeni and Mervyn van Wyk made it to the panel for the first time, while Daniel Bennett celebrated his 16th year on the panel.
