Fans react to Bafana’s draw against Ivory Coast

As expected, there were different views from the fans following Bafana Bafana’s 1-1 draw with Ivory Coast in Abidjan on Tuesday night.

Bafana’s performance against the Elephants was far better than their display against eSwatini, which they also drew 0-0 at FNB Stadium last week.

The game against the Ivorians was expected to be very difficult for Bafana, but they managed to hold their own and went on to score first thanks to Zwane in the opening minutes of the first half.  

But, the home side cancelled out the lead courtesy of Sebastien Haller just after the hour mark in the second half.

While others were impressed by Bafana’s display on Tuesday, other fans were not convinced that Hugo Broos’ side will do well at the Africa Cup of Nations in Ivory Coast in January.

Following the game, South African fans took to Twitter/X to share their views.

“This is not a banter. Bafana Bafana looked structured, disciplined and competitive, especially against Ivory Coast and Morocco. It helped having Mamelodi Sundowns players as the spine of the team. Hugo Broos is slowly making the right decisions and it shows,” wrote @MS_Sharpeville.

“Hugo Broos is very clever. He knows when he needs results for Bafana Bafana and playing strong opposition he starts with more Mamelodi Sundowns FC players (sic),” said Madumetja_M08.

“Watching #BafanaBafana highlights nah man we should’ve won this game. Our boys playing such good football against a star studded Ivory Coast side with European based players. If we can work on our defensive errors and also be clinical in the final 3rd we can do well in the AFCON (sic),” @SQ_Myeza wrote.

“I consider Bafana Bafana now outright favourites to win AFCON 2024. We look deceivingly very weak and I think that’s how we would play at AFCON next year. The Ivory Coast game clearly showed how we are going to play [game plan and model]. We are going to play without the ball, the opponent in most games will have the lion share of the possession, thus creating a false superiority position. Something I think would be of great asset for us (sic),” @charles_tshwane reckons.
