Families of the deceased in derby stampede left in the dark

Sports Minister Thulas Nxesi has enlisted the help of Supreme Court of Appeal judge Ronnie Pillay to investigate the death of two soccer fans at the FNB Stadium.

Johannes Nkosi and Prince Chauke died at the FNB Stadium before a Kaizer Chiefs and Orlando Pirates match.

The families of the deceased said they had not been informed about the developments in the case.

“The only thing that has happened so far is that we were invited to attend the derby last week, and a plaque was unveiled at the stadium at the gate where they died. We then watched the game and came home,” Nkosi’s father, Phineas, told Sunday World.

Both the Chauke and Nkosi family were not aware of the inquiry under Pillay.
