Ex-Chiefs star tips Mokoena and Makaringe for Bafana call ups

Gert Schalkwyk has recommended two players that Bafana Bafana coach Stuart Baxter can call for the Libya clash.

South Africa will face Libya in an Africa Cup of Nations qualification match next month.

Former Kaizer Chiefs and Orlando Pirates midfielder believes Teboho Mokoena and Fortune Makaringe could be Bafana Bafana’s secret ingredient in qualifying for the continental tournament.

“I think I can name more than 11 players we have to put in Bafana, but I think I will go with Mokoena and Makaringe,” Schalkwyk told Phakaaathi. “They can help Kekana because he is experienced and you will get something from him. Mokoena can even make it in Europe like in Turkey where I played, he could fit in.”

Schalkwyk says bringing young players into the squad is important as the country looks to build for the future.

“You take your Mahlambi, Monare and Mokoena you put them in the squad, even if they don’t play there experience is good, I was called up and didn’t play but being with Steven Pienaar and the conversations about playing in Holland counted, even if I didn’t play but the experience  was important for the next time.”

South Africa need one point from their last game to qualify for the Afcon 2019, which will be hosted by Egypt.
