Etoile Sahel punish slack Zesco defending to go top

Etoile Sahel of Tunisia exploited poor defending of crosses by Zesco United of Zambia to win 2-1 in Sousse on Wednesday and top Group D of the CAF Champions League.

Alaya Brigui got in front of his marker at the far post to score on 46 minutes in the Mediterranean resort and end the deadlock.

Within 10 minutes former African champions Etoile doubled their lead off another cross with Egyptian Amr Marei breaking free and sticking out a foot to beat goalkeeper Jacob Banda.

Satisfied that they had done enough to secure maximum matchday 2 points at Stade Olympique, Sahel sat back and comfortably contained Zesco.

The Zambians achieved a scoreline that flattered them thanks to a blunder by Etoile goalkeeper Achraf Krir in stoppage time when he dropped the ball after a corner and Lazarous Kambole scored.

Etoile share top spot with Mbabane Swallows of Swaziland on four points, but occupy first place because they have scored more goals.

Goals scored also divides the two clubs on one point after two rounds with Zesco third and Primeiro Agosto of Angola last.

A Felix Badenhorst goal on 60 minutes gave Swallows a 1-0 victory over Primeiro in Manzini on Tuesday.
