Erasmus rues coming back to SA

Erasmus believes he should have continued playing in Europe instead of coming back to SA to play for SuperSport United and Orlando Pirates.

Bafana Bafana striker Kermit Erasmus has admitted he made a mistake when he left Europe to come back and play in South Africa.

“Not that there’s something bad about South African football, but coming back was definitely my biggest mistake in my football career so far,” Erasmus told reporters in Durban on Wednesday.

Erasmus left the Netherlands in 2010 where he was playing for Excelsior on loan from Feyenoord to rejoin SuperSport United.

He left Matsatsantsa a Pitori in 2013 to join Orlando Pirates.

The 26-year-old striker is back in Europe after signing for French Ligue 1 side Stade Rennes in January 2016.

Having struggled to find game time, Erasmus was loaned to Ligue 2 side RC Lens, where he is a regular starter.

“This loan move to Lens has been good for me. I’m enjoying football and getting a lot of game-time. My family has been very supportive and they are happy that I’m now getting regular play time,” commented Erasmus.

Erasmus is expected to lead the Bafana Bafana attack when they take on Guinea-Bissau in Durban on Saturday.
