Embattled Baroka coach offers to step down

Nyirenda said he would be more than happy if he were to be released from his duties if that would help Baroka do well in the league.

Baroka FC coach sounded a frustrated and dejected man after his side went down to 1-0 to Golden Arrows on Wednesday night in Polokwane.

Bakgaga conceded a stoppage time goal, netted by Wayde Jooste, to leave them within touching distance of the playoff and automatic relegation spots currently occupied by Chippa United and Maritzburg United respectively.

Nyirenda said he would be more than happy if he were to be released from his duties if that would help Baroka do well in the league.

“I am employed by Baroka. If Baroka says I should go today, I’d be the happiest man. Somebody else can come and do the job,” Nyirenda said.

“I came here to help and I have helped them. If they think I am not good, it will be enough for me and I will go but you will see me one day. That is how football is.

“When you talk sometimes people think you just talk out of nowhere so sometimes it is good to keep quiet. You talk to them (the players) … they don’t change. Sometimes you tell them that the boss is not happy and they will change,” he added.

The Zambian-born coach was asked if his players are childish, as they seem to commit school-boy errors repeatedly. He said the issue is beyond that.

“We cannot call it childishness because the boys are fighting. I think something else is happening. We are just not getting the goals. We create chances but we cannot score and we giveaway goals.

“It is unbelievable and very painful. We had the whole game in our hands only to come and give away even the one point that we were supposed to get. How many chances that we had and how many chances did we have? I was shouting ‘concentrate, concentrate’ and then came that heartbreak. That is what football is,” concluded Nyirenda.
