Ekstein has attracted interest from clubs locally and outside of South Africa following his departure from Chiefs towards the end of last season.
According to reports Cape Town City tabled an offer for the midfielder and he was happy with the deal and could join them should he not receive any other offer.
Phakaaathi has learned that the midfielder left South Africa on Wednesday to meet with club officials from an unnamed club in Azerbaijan. Phakaaathi is led to believe that Qarabag have asked Ekstein to travel to Azerbaijan to discuss the possibility of him joining the club for next season.
“He left South Africa yesterday (Wednesday) to go discuss a possible move to Azerbaijan,” a source told Phakaaathi.
“It’s not a trail but he went to discuss contracts and personal terms with the club. But at the moment nothing is confirmed and the deal is set to be concluded by Thursday evening possibly.”
